1993 Camry transmission skips 2nd gear

This is a 2.2 4 cylinder with automatic. The car regularly shifts from 1st to 3rd , skipping 2nd gear and won't automatically downshift from 3rd to 2nd when accelerating or going up a hill.

It is intermittent. Sometimes it works, but most of the time not. Sometimes works when engine is cold, sometimes when it is hot. I can't seem to find any regular pattern to the problem.

It has thrown trouble code 62 which indicates an issue with shift solenoid No 1. Seems from reading other posts that a wire could be broken or loose or a sensor might be bad.

I have the manual but don't really understand how to test with the ohm readings, etc.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
