Escape broken into.

Hi all,
My 2007 Escape was broken into the other night. It was in my driveway. It WAS locked and the alarm was set. When I came out the next morning to go to work I noticed my drivers side door looked like it wasn't closed all the way. When I looked into the car, there was a bunch of stuff on the drivers seat and the middle console door was open. It then dawned on me that It was broken into. Luckily I could find no damage whats so ever. I checked all around all of the doors, looking at the rubber around the door and everything looked fine.
My question is, if the car was locked and alarmed how in the hell are crooks getting in with out breaking a window or setting off an alarm? Is there a device out now that lets them into cars somehow. They broke into my neighbors car last week. Same senario. 02 jeep grand cherokee Locked and alarmed. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

Re: Escape broken into.

Using the VIN a crook can go to the dealership and have a key cut that will fit your car. If he's good he can pick your lock without setting off the alarm. My neighbor locked his keys in a late model Chevy Cavalier. The locksmith came out and ran a tool between the door and the center pillar to the release latch inside the door. He did this fast! 2 to 3 seconds at the most. I suppose if a locksmith has such a tool it wouldn't be too hard for a low life to obtain one.

Re: Escape broken into.

I have also heard of rolling code keyless entry devices that thieves use..they can point it at your car, and it will roll thru all possible codes very rapidly, unlocking your door like the original remote.
Anytime a new device is made to deter thieves, there's always someone trying to defeat it. Too bad they won't use that creativity for good use.
Sorry for your misfortune.

Hi Steve. Actually I feel pretty lucky. The thief broke in but didn't steal anything or damage anything. He rifled through the center console and glove box. I don't keep the glove box locked. Not a scratch on the car from what I can see. If they are using these rolling code keyless entry devices there is not much we can do about it. Hopefully, someone catches a couple of these bast**ds and blow there brains out.

Re: Escape broken into.

I'm with you there. You'd think the thought of getting shot or worse would be a deterrent to thieves! Unfortunately, the laws sometimes protect them more than it does the victims. Glad it wasn't worse for you..but it does make my blood boil when people break and enter and take what is not theirs. I guess I have to believe in the "you get what you give" in the long run, and hopefully the thieves will get theirs!
