Body building?

Came across an short article about production of automotive body panels from (carbon) composites.

There's a short paragraph on the history, where the F1 takes example stage as it was the first carbon super car. It has this interesting image showing an F1 model, where I guess they are trying to put a framework up in which they can establish the body panels.

It's an interesting read, with details about the F1 carbon fibre body, but also about the production process.

EDIT: a few more body/panel pics

Re: Body building?

Hmm, shall we all chip in and arrange the following session?

Lean Manufacturing Seminar

On Thursday 12th February Dave Skertchly, (Managing Consultant of Product Technik and former Production Director of McLaren Composites) gave the first of 2 presentations entitled "How Lean Techniques were a key factor in producing the worlds first and fastest carbon fibre car".

These presentations were commissioned by Business Link Wessex and describe how the McLaren F1 super-car bodywork was produced using Lean disciplines which are directly applicable to small and medium enterprises. The talk is copiously illustrated with unique video clips, personal anecdotes and provides an inside view of this remarkable project. This talk is now offered as a keynote address and can be extended to include the inside story of the remarkable McLaren whitewash at Le-Mans in 1995.

Although those seminars were a long time ago, I think you will find that Dave Skertchly is now at Lola composites, if I,m not mistaken.

Mind you, I think Mr Skertchly,s seminar would make for a very interesting evening,s entertainment. I,m up for it .

It would be best, if only one us approaches him on behalf of the forum
