96 Camry V6 1MZ-FE w/A541E A/T. Need parts list for replacing lockup solenoid?
This *IS* an OBD-II vehicle.
So friend had a O2 and 773 tranny code (electrical fault / lockup solenoid) O2 no issue. It's the tranny. Owner says it's been "who knows when" any service incl any fluid swaps have been done. Dropped the pan: Very little metal on the magnets. Fluid not burnt, actually still has its reddish color (not all browned out)... didnt smell burnt either. Overall pretty damn clean transmission from the looks of the pan. So... 773 fault. I disconnected the harness for the solenoid and sometimes I would get a solid reading ~15.8 ohms... but then more often, I coudlnt get a good reading.... multimeter would wander.... I scraped the electrical spade connector and sprayed with brake cleaner to remove residue that may have prevented a good electrical connection. Put that back together and put in 3 1/2 qt of fresh ATF. Told owner that it could be up to 2 weeks for the tranny code to show up again.... gave low odds that i actually fixed anything with the tranny. I have always said "I don't work on transmissions" b/c not my favorite part of a car. Went thru the AX2.pdf and no mention if the valve body has a gasket... i remember seeing a flat black piece at the valve body that might be a gasket... no sign of it on the retail parts sites. Is replacing this solenoid (if required) difficult? Mainly looking at it from "oh to re-install correctly, when reassembling you have to hold down this lever while putting this part back in place..." which I could miss. And looking at service manual.... some odd wording: "Remove B3 Apply Tube". ... wtf is an "apply tube".... and "remove second brake apply gasket".... WHAT LANGUAGE IS THAT? just more reasons I balk at replacing the solenoid for her..... (and ive rebuilt an engine or two... I just dont like transmissions!)
