'88 Lesabre - How many ounces of Freon?
I just replaced the accumulator and orifice on my 1988 Buick Lesabre. After filling the accumulator with about 4 ounces of oil, I drawed vacuum on the system. It would only get -24 lbs, so after an hour of that, I tested it for about 30 minutes, and it was still holding. After that, I added 3 cans of freon (36 ounces total) with a gauge manifold, making sure to purge the lines of air before each can of freon was added. At idle, its about 65 degrees, and while driving its about 50 degrees. The temperature readings were done with a small thermostat placed in the air vents inside the vehicle.
My father mentioned that I should add another can. How many ounces of freon does my system hold, and should I add another can? I don't want to cause a negative performance on how cold it blows by trying to stuff more freon into the system than it can handle. Thank you. P.S. The low side gauge read 60 by the time I finished inserting the last can. |

Re: '88 Lesabre - How many ounces of Freon?
Did you do a conversion to R134a? If so, it should be charged to 85-90% of the R12 capacity, which is 53oz. So, you should have a max charge with 47.7 oz. & low side should be between 35-40 psig & vent temps should be in the 30-40's @

Re: '88 Lesabre - How many ounces of Freon?
Don't put to much in, it makes it warmer. I just wanted to mention it because more (to much) doesn't make it colder, it makes it warmer.
In fact, some air places slowly add until the temp stops getting colder, or starts to come up, then they stop. Last year I added a can, it made it colder. I added another one (more is better!!!), it made it warmer. It gets colder by contracting and expanding. To much and it can't expand max. Chris.

Quote:
Wondering the same... R134a Conversion? 60Psi on the low side is way too high... What did the high side read? Generally on the low side depending on how hot it is 35 - 45 Psi is acceptable with 85+ or st temps with some humidity.. And when you say Orifice Tube you mean you replaced the filter correct? As well is this the original compressor? |
