2000 Kia Sportage rough idle

We previously had some starting problems with the Kia. I cleaned out the
throttle body with brake wash, cleaned the throttle sensor on the side of
the intake pipe. Then we had rough idle and would almost stall in R or D.
Actually sometimes it would stall.
I was able to use a hand held engine analyizer (computer) to plug into the vehicles computer system. Code P0102 came up. Mass Airflow Sensor.
I replaced it and now its fine. Now here is the rest of the storey. I priced one out at our Local Tom Harris Kia dealer here in Nanaimo BC. They wanted $532.00 plus 12% for sales tax. I just about flipped. I hung up the phone. I went on line and found one brand new OEM specs and part
number. Price $117.00. By the time I got it delivered to my door it was
$155. CDN with shipping. Customs duties and handling another $20.00.
So there you have it folks, shop around. I do not know for the life of me how these CAR DEALERSHIPS CAN CONTINUE TO RIP PEOPLE OFF. There just is not any justification for this BS. I placed the order with
AIP Electronics in Bakersfield CA. They sent it out on a Friday and I received it the following Wednesday. I gave AIP Electronics a 5 star rating. The Mass Airflow Sensor can be changed in about 10-20 min. on the 2000 Kia Sportage. A phillips screw driver and a #10 metric socket is all you need. And by the way the car runs excellent now and the check engine light is out.

well just check local for a timing belt....just the belt...then compare prices on the net for a complete timing belt/idler/tensioner/waterpump/gasket kit.....and it will be less than the local belt. Why would they not sell the complete kit at an affordable price and keep the client ? I guess they make so much money on the few who fall in the trap that they can afford to loose those who can look elsewhere....

Yes, last year the timing belt broke when we were on the road, fortunately, no damage to the motor. Had to get it towed to Canadian Tire, the young mechanic just winding up his apprenticship already had changed a few on these cars, so gave him to okay to do it. Bill came to
$850. Replaced water pump at same time. But he did a good job and the service was excellent. Even the service manager gave us a ride back home which was about 30 miles.
I will check out a timing belt kit. Thanks for that info.
