Customizing Car Interior Questions?

I'm just wanting to know mainly on how hard of a job this might be? or if it's just simply something that takes some time to do..

I'm wanting to do white interior, but my seats instead of cloth covering them in leather, and then my door trims, dash board etc.. in white vinyl and my the floor in a new color as well

What type of materials and tools would i need to do this at home.

I do plan to buy all spare parts so i wont risk stuffing up my original parts.

No offense, but if you don't know the answers to these questions, you won't be able to reupholster your seats in leather.

Re: Customizing Car Interior Questions?

I used to do custom show quality upholstery work (I still do some work). It's a lot harder than you think. If you haven't done it before, you're best bet is probably to take it to a professional. They'll know what products to use and what works best. Even the best DIY jobs I've seen online screw up by using the wrong contact cement, crappy materials, the wrong thread, screwed up seam allowances or more.

You're best bet is to take it to a custom upholstery shop. You'll have a heck of a time doing a dashboard, the door panels (unless it's an old school car with flat panels), etc if you've never done it. Also, you can't source a quality contact cement in a can from a regular store. Some "DIY" people think you can, but that's just the truth. Nothing beats a good contact cement from a glue pot.

Be aware it's expensive. For carpets, try Auto Custom Carpets. You can try them for floor mats too. Those are items you can put in yourself. Carpets do NOT come with the holes cut, so you'll have to do that. Measure twice, cut one or you'll be buying a new piece. If you've never stitched, don't even try the seats unless it's spares.

You'll need upholstery thread, contact cement, leather, scrim, hog ring pliers, and lots more to even attempt to do it yourself. Upholstery is an under-appreciated skill.

I think, it doesn't take much to create just a few changes so that your car has a different look. But maybe you need to search more about it before start. Well, I think internet can be the best option.

If you know how to do the work then you can go on. Otherwise it will be better to consult a car interior decorators.
