In Japan they had a sort of gentleman's agreement not to advertise cars as having more then 276 hp so there was never really a huge hp war like there is here in the US. Just recently, someone broke the agreement though, so I don't know if it will be in GT4.

i think he meant in the video game world, not real life.

maybe its just a glitch, or you put some upgrade on it and forgot.

No, he's right. It's a direct result of the Gentleman's agreement, and it's in all 3 GT games. All the Jap cars are 276HP in the dealership, then are up to 310 in your garage as soon as you buy them.... just like in real life in Japan.

did you win the one in your garage? i've noticed when you win cars instead of buying them they are rated higher hp and torque. win the type r race(beginner i think) and win the rsx and look at the specs. notice how at the dealership it's rated 142 lbs of torque but the one you win has 192. I don't think it has anything to do with the gentleman's agreement. the rsx is an acura in the american car catagory. and that's minimal i've won cars that have 200-300 more lbs/ft torque than the dealership version

AFAIK, it's a deliberately programmed replica of car companies under-rating their cars, as happens in real life. More often IRL, companies over-rate their cars' outputs.

gentleman agreement in japan rates the skyline @ 276... IRL when dyno'd its around 320 or so.. so that's the hp rating in your garage.

this applies to all cars, bought or won. another tip is always win cars. for some reason after oil changes they have a larger increase in power over the cars which are bought.

The horsepower thing is just like the what the manufactures do in real life. The same thing happended in the '70s with muscle cars. Some cars were said to have only ~350hp but they actually made ~420hp.

What I want to know is what is with the torque ratings in the game. I think the conversions got screwed up. The cars only make 10% of what their rating should be. For example if a car makes 300lbs/ft of torque, the game only gives it 30.0lbs/ft of torque. Am I the only one that has this prob? I have seen it in all 3 GT games though?
