Hi, Just finished this super little kit from Marsh Models. It's the "74" DN4 driven by Jackie Oliver at Road Atlanta. Just added a few rivets and detailed the dash and seat.

Re: Shadow DN4 Can Am
I don't know the driver, the year 1974, the car was a Mclaren M8D sponsored by Led Zepplin with art by Peter Max. Oh Yeah the model looks great.

Re: Shadow DN4 Can Am
The Shadow looks great! I was lucky enough to see these race at Road America. Last of the "true" Can-Am cars. The other is a McLaren M8D that was sponsored by Led Zepplin but I can't think who the driver was.

Re: Shadow DN4 Can Am
Superb! You made a wonderful job of that, can't get enough of the CanAm monsters! I assume as it's a Marsh Models kit it is 1:43rd scale? The owner of the Shadow team sounded a bit odd from what I recall reading in a recent interview with Jackie Oliver in an edition of Motorsport magazine as he would turn up to races wearing a black cape and hat for the full Shadow effect!

Re: Shadow DN4 Can Am
Hi Alex,
That is a very cool piece of Shadow-work there: impressive! I love the way you can see design features on some of these early-70's cars which are still familiar on modern LMP-style sports-racers. About 800bhp in period, right? The Led Zep connection to the McLaren was news to me, though! After a bit of digging around online, it seems as though the sponsorship was through drummer John Bonham - very much the car fan of the group, I think! Looks like it spent most of 1974 running in European Interserie rounds, rather than in the 'final' year of Can-Am (which explains why I couldn't find a sinlge photo in my two Pete Lyons books...) So, two of my favourite things in one project - Zep, and sportscars! Will be following with interest... |
