Are you looking to achieve the carbon fibre look or the heat discolorations?
You can use decals to create the carbon look with c/f decal, or there is a couple of how-to's on the Tamiya site which you may find useful, including how to create the heat discoloration: http://www.tamiya.com/english/howto/car1/howto_car1.htm
