2001 Yukon Steering

Hey guys,
I started to notice about a month ago that the steering wheel feels kind of clunky. Whenever I turn or go over a bump, I can hear and feel this weird clunky sound/ feel. I don't know if it would be the idler arm or what.
Thanks for all your help guys!
-Brandon

Re: 2001 Yukon Steering

Does it sound like its coming from outside the vehicle or inside from the column itself.

I think it is from inside the column itself. I haven't heard it while outside the vehicle. I can feel it when I drive. It is pretty strong.

Re: 2001 Yukon Steering

The first thing you can try is this.

Open the hood and look the the steering shaft on the drivers side. You should see a bolt about midway that connects the two shafts. Rotate the steering wheel until the head of the bolt is accessible. Remove the bolt (do not rotate the steering wheel with the two shafts seperated). You should be able to slide the shaft towards the fire wall. Run the shaft in and out a dozen times. Put them back together and test drive. If you still hear the noise there is a bearing on the end off the column that is bad. If the nois goes away or changes that the intermediate shaft is bad.
