Burn out
How do you do a burn out?
I sometimes pull my boat with this truck, so how would adding a turbo or supercharger or even a blower affect its towing? |

Ok, it may seem obvious but I just wanted to make sure
on the steering collum where it says P D R N 3 2 1 I would need to select the (3) and then select the tow mode. correct? Also when doing a burn out do I use any break, and what are the pro's and con's of a turbo vs. supercharger and espeically considering longevity and the fact that I will be pulling a boat sometimes? |

No I am 33 and have served 14 years of service to my country.
I asked about burn outs because I wanted to know how they were done. If it was something that had to do with power or technique. I have just gotten this truck as a gift from my wife and I am not the original owner so I have been feeling it out and tryning to learn the limitations to it. I often pull my triton TR-196 with it but I am finding other uses for it. The burn out is something I though I need to seen people do and just was curious to know how they did it. This is an 2000 silverado 5.3L engine stepside. I have learned that the bed is fiberglass and I think the rear is is a limited slip. 142,100 miles is on it and I have done a tune up and replaced the fuel pump (boush?) and sending unit because it was not tracking. My next project is replacing the oil in all the gear boxes and I would love to replace the screws on the rear axle and "hub" plate. So I am not some youth looking for a thrill or speeding..I've had my share when I broke my femur , hip, ankle and compound fractured my right arm. I just want to optimise the vehicle and learn as much as I can about it. I don't have an owners manual but I have just recently gotten a haynes manaual but that doesn't tell you about how tow things. |

Also the supercharger , turbo question was something I thought about and I just wanted to know opinions about it. If it is a waste of money then cool.. you just saved me the trouble and I appreciate it.
I am trying to get a double din nav/sat receiver to fit in instead of the factory radio so if someone has upgraded their stereo system this way or anyway I would like to know just what you did. Thanks to all.. |

Use this site for owners and factory service manuals. IMO owners manuals are a must have item.
http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage.asp Try this technique for burn-outs. Left foot hard on the brake pedal and throttle it up then release the brakes. See what happens. As far as the blower/turbo thing, if you've got the money and want to impress folks, go for it. But, you'd be better off with maybe a PCM tune from someone like Nelson. What ever you do, just have FUN, you 33 year old kid!!

the rear diff should be the eaton locking diff with the 4X4 WD...most come with the 3.73 ratio ...use synthetic 75-90 wt...
the limited diff is not used on these .. you got me beat , 6yr war veteran ....14yrs is a long time .... |

your truck should have front and rear disc brakes making it almost impossible to do a worthy burn out. I have a 2000 2500 with a thirsty 6.0L and all I can get mine to do is shudder and humm since the brakes are all locked up. The only way is with the front valve as stated earler. For power, I switched to Ames oil with a K&N oil and air filter and it made a diffrence. You might have luck with a power programer, but I thought the 5.3L was pertty snappy. I do not have one so I cant make a reccomendation. Good luck and Have fun. Chevy's are easy and pretty cheap to fix, in my opinion.
