Red face where to start with CC

95 TS 3.1, 3 sp auto.
i bought this van used, and CC was not functional. I have never had a car that has CC. Where do I start as far as diagnostic or flow chart trouble shooting? Is there a way i can check it without driving it around so that way if I work on it I don't have to go back and forth testing it. I live out in a country curvy road. Thanks for any help and feedback. Good day/night.

Re: where to start with CC

how good are you with el. testing?
and do you have test light or DVOM?

I can give you good instructions but need to know what are your capabilities when it comes to el. testing since list is long and hate to write instructions for people that don't try to use them or don't even reply or keep us posted about their testing progress.

Re: where to start with CC

I have a pretty good understanding about electrical system and wiring. I'd have to buy a new multimeter since mine was stolen. I am more of a pictorial and hand on, so writing it out would have to be kind of simple. I have confidence that you can write it out and I'll be able to follow through. Thanks- Joe

Re: where to start with CC

- ignition switch to run position
-cruse control switch to on position
-back probe terminal A of the cruse module with the test light to ground is light on?

picture of cruse module is under your steering column.

- I can solve your problem, it is only a matter of your willingness to fallow my instructions and post back results. Also, if I see that someone is not replying on time, I give up thinking that person is not interested.

I understand completely about taking too long to talk back and forth. I'm in process of moving and taking care of family. I'll do as you instructed and respond. Thank you

Re: where to start with CC

OK..here is my experience with CC...yeah..cruise control.
THe electronic section is quite trouble free. YOU must be sure though the brake pedal switch is correctly positioned and functional as a false brake signal inhibits CC. Also, a TPS (throttle position sensor) error inhibits TCC, cruise and 4th gear...ahh yeah, no 4th on this one.
Mine did not work because of a stuck solenoid. Here is the link

Although the first schematic diagram is from a 3.8, the actuator is absolutely similar.

Re: where to start with CC

In my case it was a blown fuse on the convenience center (CEL was on reporting a "quad driver" problem), but there are some other things to check as well: vacuum lines, the switches on the brake pedal, etc.

Many of these issues will disable the TCC as well, which is why I asked before if the TCC was working.

Re: where to start with CC

great, i am now in process of moving to a different house. I will have to put this on hold for at least a couple of weeks. I'll come back and we'll tackle this problem. Should I bring this thread back or should I start a new one? I post this because I don't want any of you to think I'm disrespecting your skills and time. Thank you, Joe

Re: where to start with CC

Keep this thread alive. Much less confusing for those who enter at a later time...
