95 engine in a 93 car?
I bought a 93 Taurus wagon used, typical transverse-mounted 6-cyl 3.0L engine. It had come to me in MD through a guy who moved here from MN. The water pump went up a few weeks ago. Bought a replacement from my stepson at my local AutoZone; noticed it had 11 bolt holes where the bad pump had 12 (there was a cutout [for want of a better term] in the body of the pump where the 12th bolt should have gone; but after gooping the gasket and torquing the bolts, no leaks anywhere). The replacement pump failed over the weekend. Took it back to AZ for a swap and that's when my stepson did a little head-scratching and pulled a pump for a 95 Taurus. Whaddya know: 12 bolt holes. Asked the guy who sold me the wagon if the engine had ever been replaced; not as far as he knows. Is there some serial number, or a copy of the VIN, somewhere on the block that I could check to find out if the engine is from another vehicle? Where on the block would I look? Google doesn't seem to know. Thanks.

Re: 95 engine in a 93 car?
Well, if I ever find out where to look on the engine for a number, that would tell me what model year the engine was. Thanks, way2old; I'll keep this in mind against that day.
