melted coil pack
OK, I have looked and cant find this anywhere. 96 intrepid 3.3. Running on 3-4 cyl. found a bad ground and old coil was cracked and split. new coil and relearn trans with "verus" picked up 4-5 cyl. while scaning (28 loss of 12 volt to TCM-need to relearn) new coil started smoking and melting. any helpl? also ck eng lt is on and no codes found (again with verus scan). car sstill starts and runs only coil gets hot almost instantly both key on eng off and key on and eng run. still missing and shaking. The wire that was bad is from the large gray shielded three wire (cable ?) and was the grnd wrap wire. Thanks.

Re: melted coil pack
I would look for a used shielded cable wire that was bad at a few scrap yards. Probably a part of the present wire is bad.

Re: melted coil pack
The shield is a wire mesh ground which stops stray voltages from causing problems.
Usually a cover for a wire which is pulsed like a coil wire. The spark plug wires can cause some problems. I have purchased shielded cable with a covering like aluminum foil. I unwrapped this and used a crimped connector for a ground wire. My son tried using regular wire and his vehicle didn't work correctly and he purchased shielded wire. |
