2000 Lesabre no power runs terrible

sounds bad. will idle but its rough. no power at all when trying to accelerate. obd scan reveals bank one running lean, multiple misfires and evap problem. changed plugs, wires, fuel filter, injectors and o-rings. going to replace upstream o2 sensor tomorrow. i feel like im just throwing money at a problem here. even with the little computer i dont feel any closer to solving my problem. any advice on what could be causing this? thanks.

Have you checked the intake manifold for leaks or cracks? Use carb cleaner spray while it's running to see if it sucks any in and changes idle speed. j

Are you losing any coolant?

Check for vacuum leaks around the EVAP purge solenoid. BTW, what was the EVAP code; PO441?

Re: 2000 Lesabre no power runs terrible

Don't know if this helps but just a few days had same symptoms on my 2000 lesabre. Replaced plug wires , and no help. Took the 3 coil packs out of my 96 park ave and swapped em out with the lesabre. Started the park ave and got the same symptoms there ,, so I knew I had it. Had one bad coil pack. Got a new and replaced it then on the park ave and just left the others in the lesabre. However I have a code reader and got the p0300 code (multiple misfires). That coil pack only cost me about 25 bucks at auto zone and now I am actually thinking about getting another for a spare just in case it happens again. I got 3 vehicles all with the 3.8 liter v6 and all use the same coil pack . A 5.5 mm socket will easily remove them in seconds. Probly the easiest thing u could ever change. Also all you have to remember is the top wire on each coil pack goes to the other side of the engine and the bottom goes to a cylinder on the front. Good luck

Re: 2000 Lesabre no power runs terrible

codes are as follows

PO 171 Bank 1 too lean
PO300 Random/ multiple misfires detected
PO442 Evap leak (small)

i guess for $25 a new cool pack wont hurt to try. ive also got the upstream o2 sensor but i cant get any tools on it to take it off yet. but im more and more convinced i need to replace my cat converter. any thoughts?

Re: 2000 Lesabre no power runs terrible

i did check for leaks around the intake and couldnt find any. also looked for leakes around canister mounted to engine and all was good there. can i just take out the cat converter and replace it with pipe? or wil thet screw up my sensors?

Re: 2000 Lesabre no power runs terrible

You have a "random misfire" which means misfire on ALL CYLINDERS, not one or two, which would only indicate a single coil failure! (Don't continue to throw parts at the problem)! P0441, P0300 & P0171 would more than likely point to a vacuum leak somewhere, or a bad MAF. How does it run with the MAF disconnected? You may need to have an EVAP diagnosis preformed using a smoke test. Usually, a vacuum leak is located somewhere other than the UIM/LIM. Rather than rewrite the book, for more info on an EVAP codes, Click Here

Re: 2000 Lesabre no power runs terrible

P0171, probably Intake Gasket, common problem, especially higher mileage engines, would be a good idea to check the entire vacuum system for leaks, and possibly replace O2's. could cause multiple/random misfire code as well.(P0300)
P0442, you have a vacuum leak.

Re: 2000 Lesabre no power runs terrible

If you think your cats are the problem just hook a vacuum gauge to manifold vacuum, generally you would expect 18" of vacuum at idle, low vacuum could indicate plugged cats creating excessive back-pressure, causing misfires, lack of power, and poor idle, but not lean codes.

i unplugged the MAF and it didnt change how it ran. does this mean the sensor is bad? is there a way to test it?
