1966 mustang need help
Hey i'm currently a 17 year old and i'm taking an auto shop class in high school. we will be rebuilding engines and i would like to put a 302 in my car instead of the 289 that i have currently. i was curious what else i would have to change if i put the 302 engine in the car. any advise would be greatly appreciated thanks

Re: 1966 mustang need help
It may fit, but it may not be worthwhile. Virtually all stock 302's from about 1972 onwards are inferior than the 289 for power and performance, except for the late 80's to early 90's Mustang and Lincoln LSC engines. And if you swap in one of them, you will have big headaches getting the EFI to work as intended.
Imo keep the 289, unless you have deep pockets (and if you have deep pockets for mods, install a modded 351W instead. |
