quick question

hey just one question. i know pretty much everything there is to know about 240s and srswaps, etc because i did alooooot of research. but i cant seem to find a solid answer to an embrassingly novice question. So here goes. Will the S13 Red Top and Black top fit into an american 240, 95-97 years? Thanks.

alot of people use the red top in their S14's because the S14 SR costs so much more without much of a gain in power.

in order for you to fit a red top SR into the chassis you need to hammer out the firewall becuase the SR is just too wide to fit in the bay, you also need to get 2 smaller radiators becusae the engine is too long , and it will extend to the other end of hte engine bay so you need to split the radiator in too two.

j/k it fits right on without modification. since the SR was the original engine in that car anyways.

Haha before I read you were kidding I thought you were high...:bandit:

Anyways, thanks for answering the question. I looked everywhere, including srswap.com, but they just said it would fit directly into an S13 chassis with no mod, but mentioned nothing that I could find about the Red Top into the S14 with no mods. OK, so I was looking at Preludes for a while and was actually going to get one for my import. Then I went to a street race for the first time in a few weeks and saw someone with a S13/Redtop. Screw the Prelude. Let's just say he revived my passion for the 240. And yea, I have liked it way before the whole swap became popular as well, so I'm no n00b to them. Just that simple questions are the hardest to find out sometimes.

Anyways this guy was running stock turbo with a boost controller, wastegate, bov, and some basics. He smoked us in my friends 67 SS Camaro. Obliterated. And he claims he was running half of his potential boost. How the hell do you crank up the stock boost using only a wastegate, bov, and boost controller? Is this safe for the SR? I know SRSwap.com says to keep it to around 15 psi, but how do you do that with those three parts? Answers would be appreciated.

P.S. TatII, That pic of your car in your prof....absolutley beautiful. Breathtaking.

thanks for the compliment. i see that your not too familiar with turbos. the way that a turbo charger regulates boost is from the waste gate. the waste gate has a internal spring that opens the relief valve when it hits a certain boost level. when you have a boost controller it controls the wastegate to open at a different time. i would assume that it either controls the vacuum goin to the waste gate or controls the spring. so therefore you can up the boost with a simple mechanical device that cost no more then $80 (the most basic mechanical one) or you can just cheat by removing the vacuum line goin to the factory wastegate so you'll be running at 15 lbs the whole time. from the factory the SR is a very very sturdy block. it can handle more power then what the stock turbo can throw at it. alot of people say that the motor can handle 400+ hp.

a lot of research huh? suuuure

"I loved the 240 before all these assholes with Z3 fenders and dual cowl induction wannabe hoods made our love a trend. Please, anyone who wants to get a 240, and "drop in" a SR because they saw it in Import Tuner, just get a Civic."

a dorkin wannabe or what? obviously, if you did love the 240 as long as you say you did, you would ask this moronic question.

sorry to flame, but you, my good man, are a poseur

hey guess what? I know four people with 240s, two stock, and the other two with basic mods. I go to the races with them every other weekend. One of them has had his car ever since 89'. They were the first people I met at the races over a year ago, so you can save your little S15 headlights flaming bullshit. Don't ever call me a poser. Just because I drive a Corvette doesn't mean I can't learn shit about an import. And if you don't like my profile, then don't fucking read it. I thought that just because I asked a question that would make me look like a newbie, people in this forum would be mature enough to answer without making judgements when they don't even know me. Thanks to all of you that answered my question with decency and didn't judge.

Anyways. I think I am going to purchase my (s14)240 sometime this month, and buy the Redtop kit from srswap.com and do it with the help of my 240 buddies. If you guys know any better place to get one from, please be free to tell me.

And sorry that I'm not too familliar with turbos, I have never honestly worked with them and only know the mechanical basics of how they work.

One last thing...I was thinking about doing the valvetrain first, then tuning the stock turbo to its limit. But as for the valvetrain, would 272 degree duration cause a shitty idle and sound? And should I use the same duration on both intake and exhaust sides, or keep the exhaust longer? Thanks.

TheLogikal1: that really wasn't needed...i can see why you would want to flame him, as it is a rather novice question, but it's true. all of the websites about swaps don't say a thing about whether the red-top can fit in the S14. it should be kind of obvious that it CAN, since the S14 SR is the same size, but it's still a valid question.

I add all these posts together and come up with one answer: YOU ARE AN IDIOT.

How can you say you know "everything" about 240's? Even me, who's been apart of the 240SX community for many many years wouldnt mouth off and say such a thing. Your question alone shows ignorance. What surprises me even more is that you would consider a Prelude after owning a Corvette -- you would think after experiencing a nice RWD car that you would know the difference and not want to go back. I am not saying this to diss FWD cars, I am just saying that I dont know too many people who go FROM RWD to FWD.

Seeing the 240SX at illegal street races is a joke.. but thats America.. using a canyon car for drag racing.. impressive. With that mentality, you should have looked into getting a Turbo Supra or Z.

I am not dissing you for wanting an import, there's nothing wrong with that. I am dissing you for not researching before you ask your question! The SR is a FACTORY motor, it came on the car STOCK. I am dissing you because you talk about wanting a Prelude and then wanting a 240SX, that only shows one thing: trendiness. You basically saw ONE fixed up 240SX and all of a sudden, want one. I guess it doesnt take much to impress you.. because you couldnt have liked the Prelude that much if you switched so quickly. The trend just doesnt stop on this site, does it?

ps: How did you know it was a red-top, was it because the valve cover was powdercoated red? My SOHC motor's valve cover is red, does that make it a "red top?"

if it's engine swapped with an rb25 or higher it's definately not a joke, but if it's on the turbo or sr you'll defaintely have trouble winning if there are some 12 sec cars there

i refuse to paint my valve cover red just for that reason... but maybe my opinion will change in the future. right now it's a blacktop

you guys really do get critical around here. if he wants a 240sx, good for him. granted it was a dumb question. kinda like: will a b18c fit in my 91 integra? but really, whats wrong with giving people a straight answer and holding back on the petty insults, theres really no reason for it. all of you seem so scared that more people will buy 240's and i can't figure that out. if all of you guys have such lame personalities that you need to rely on your cars to be origional than thats pretty sad. you guys should be proud that seeing only one 240 made him want one, it just shows how much ass our cars kick. i know i just bought mine too and i'm sure that makes me a "poser" but i just wanted to voice an opinion.
