engine swap for '93 integra gs-r

I got a 1993 integra gs-r its got a 1.7 liter with vtec in it and am just starting to build it up..
first of all what is the engine code? b17c something i think but am not sure?

second i am definitely interested in a engine swap as this engine has high mileage so rather than put the same thing in it, I was thinkin something a little more powerful, crvtec maybe preferably? and if not that then maybe a Ls/vtec? that would be a 1.8 i think so would that be better than what i have now ?

and finally if i can do a frankenstein engine can I use the head that i already am using in my car from the 1.7 liter?

It's a B17A1.

Just put a JDM B18C1 into it. That is the easiest swap. Everything bolts right in, and hooks right up. Just make sure you get one with OBD1. The JDM B18C1 has 180 HP. Your B17A1 has 160 HP, but less torque. Also how much money do you have to spend, if you have like a few thousand I would recommend a JDM B18C5, they have 210 HP and are also a bolt in swap. Except they are OBD2, I don't know for sure if you can get them in OBD1.?

basically...its jus a way to keep the air a little cleaner. the newer the car, the more restrictive the exhaust/cat set-up are going to be (for the most part).

i'd agree w/ pwman jdm b18c is the way to go.

OBD= on board diagnostics system

The difference is between I and II is the amount of sensors. It's not only for emissions purposes but also to monitor the way an engine performs.

you'll have to convert from a cable clutch (which you have right now) to a hydraulic clutch so you'll have to go to a junkyard and pull a clutchmaster and slave cylinder out of a honda or acura. Make sure you find out first if it'll fit though.

isnt it easier to chirp tires with a hydraulic clutch? my friend has a 95 LS teg thats 100% stock except 17" rims on nitto drag radials and he can chirp those. i had a 91 integra GS with intake, exhaust, no AC/PS belts, hollowed cat, and 15" alloys and i could only chirp 1st (and spin of course) but no 2nd...

I'd say you keep the B17 and rebuild with ITR pistons and rework the head. You have a rare engine so why toss it out? If you do swap the engine I'd like to take the longblock of your hands.

Why change from cable? Thats just a pain in the ass, the B18C1 will bolt right up to the tranny thats in the car right now.

Oh and I would have said to rebuild the B17, but thats damn expensive.

If anything it should be cheaper to rebuild if done yourself and at the most the same as the cost of a new swap.

well, if i was gonna rebuild the B17

bore .20 over, dont know cost $?(have to on a hig mile engine, right?)
pistons - 10.5:1 $438 (.20 over)
rods - crower has some fopr 400 but not for the B17, so i dunno where
cams - stage 2 cams $650
dual valve springs/tit. retainers - $430
new head gasket $50
new bearings $?
do you have to get a new crank?

anyways, it works to like 2k plus how much it costs to bore it and get the bearings

a B18C1 long block is 1800 plus shipping from Hmotorts, and shippiong on my b20 was 230 bucks, so either buy the B18C1 long block for 2030, or you could save up a bit more, and have a pretty much new engine (except crank is old)

but that engine is gonna be alot better than the B18C1 stock, and the B18C1 you get will have like 50k on it probably. plkus no wiring crap to deal with.
