I don't think i've seen a better looking F1 (and therefore car) than this. It is a GTR 95 originally belonging to the jacadi team. It came fifth at the 1995 le mans. It was then converted to full LM spec and sprayed orange by McLaren at the cost of $230,000. It is for sale at oakfields in england.
Can anyone tell me the whereabouts of the F1 which won the 1995 le mans? |

We've actually talked about the LeMans winner recently in here. The best info available says that the car (GTR #01R) remains in the possession of McLaren Cars - possibly in the McLaren museum.
There is a rumor that the Sultan of Brunei purchased the car, but I don't think there is truly any confirmation of that. I do know that when they loaned the car to the Japanese group who sponsored the car at the '95 LeMans race, they extended them the offer to purchase the car following the race - unless the car won the race - which it did. = = = = = As for the car at Oakfields (GTR #07R), it sort of disappoints me that McLaren Cars would refinish a GTR to appear almost exactly like one of the special edition F1 LM's - but who am I to complain. It does of course look good that way. There is another GTR that has received the same treatment - a '96-spec GTR #11R, but you can still tell those two cars apart in photos, and can also tell that they are not true LMs if you know what to look for. There is another chapter to #07R's history most aren't aware of. Supposedly the car was sold to AMG following the 1995 racing season, and that AMG apparently used the car to help develop their own GT racing contender - the CLK GTR. It's unclear how long AMG owned the car, but its only competitive racing history is from the 1995 season. Most of the other '95-spec GTRs continued to race into 1996 and two even made appearances in the 1997 season after the long tailed GTRs were introduced. >8^) ER |

Sounds like you're going to have quite the McLaren-filled vacation...
![]() Be sure to take a camera and lots of film. If it's a digital camera that you are taking, make sure you won't run out of CF cards. Either way, you need to take lots of pictures! >8^) ER |

Well hopefully people will be accomodating with the photo requests.
If you do get to see this particular car - find out what you can on it's ownership history involving AMG. I find it very interesting that they would have actually purchased an F1 GTR for their CLK-GTR development work. I wonder if the car was just purchased by an executive inside AMG?? There's probably some interesting info to be had on this one if your contact is knowledgable and able to share. My only other request is that you document the chassis numbers of any cars you encounter. Especially that one in the London showroom we've all gone back and forth on so many times. >8^) ER |

The VIN number is engraved within the carbon fibre on the floor to the right of the gearshift lever if you are sitting in the car (US passenger side in a normal two-seat arrangement).
I can't remember where the big plate is located--I don't think it is on the door jamb--maybe it's in one of the storage compartments. Anyone know? |

yes, i just hope i can remember them all. my main goal is to find out what the mclaren in the park lane showroom chassis' number is. from what i've heard about the lady, it seems unlikley that she will tell me, so i guess i will have to go look myself, are you allowed to walk around it. also what is the really nice hotel down the road from it, i remember passing it and out of about 10 cars 8 were rolls/bentleys and the other 2 were mercs. anyone know? |

The main VIN plates are in the front compartment (under the bonnet), from which you access the fluids.

This image is from the recent set of photos that came from the Park Lane dealer. Note the large plaque in the engine compartment that I have circled in red.
![]() I have never seen a good photo of this plaque from any McLaren ever. I do believe it is a standard item though, as you can also see it in this photo of the engine compartment on Selldorff's #007: ![]() If you could get a good photo of this I would really appreciate it. It doesn't matter to me which car you get it from, I'm just very interested in the info that is included on it. If anyone already has a good photo of this plaque, please post it. I suspect it is simply info pertaining to the engine, but as I said, I'm quite curious to see one. Especially since it seems to be such an oversight for most people. >8^) ER |

One more thing about the chassis in Park Lane. Everyone is so far correct on the VIN and chassis number plate (underneath the carpeting on the right passenger footwell up close to the dash, and in front of the shifter, respectively) but if this is the Clinic Model or XP3 it may not have a VIN number. It may not even have a chassis plaque. Some manufacturers don't assign VIN numbers to prototypes. I'll just have to wait and see. |

Well, it does have the chassis plaque ahead of the shifter where the ignition key goes. I think if I could get the hi-res version of this photo, we might actually be able to read it. So far, the person who found this set of photos has been unable to acquire the high res shots.
