Angry ok, i'm a little pissed...help (warranty)

ok, my car started acting real funny today...so here's the deal...when i start it up, it starts to make a real funny sound, like someone threw rocks in my motor, so i'm driving around and notice my car shaking a little when i'm almost at a complete stop, so i thougt it was really weird, so i'm at a stop light and i tried to go when the light hit green, and it wouldn't until i hit somewhere around 3K rpms and my car almost wanted peel out and sh*t, so i'm like WTF!!! (btw its an auto), really weird and the sound is still there, it sounds like my tranny is slipping...so i tell my parents that i''m gonna take my car in and they start bitching about how its because i put wheels and sh*t on my car...but for some reason i think its kinda true...

so my question is, whats the dealership gonna say about this...is my tranny still under warranty even if i put wheels on my car? i mean its all connected so i figure the dealership could very well blame it on my wheels...and are my parents right? i'm afraid i'm not gonna hear the last of it from my folks

FYI, my car is a 2001 P11 auto, with 18" wheels that weigh about 24lbs per wheel for the wheels alone, and i have about 19K pampered miles on it, with oil changes every 3K miles

John, I'd be *really* surprised if your new wheels will void your warranty. It's too ridiculous.

Agreed. That would be BS. If the stealer gives you grief, I'd go to the SEMA web site. They have resources for fighting dealers trying to void your warranty. Voiding the drivetrain portion of your warranty due to wheels would create such a dangerous precedent that I don't think they would do it. Hell, all you'd have to prove is that the manufacturer uses the same size wheels anywhere else in the world.

That shouldn't void the warranty. If they say it does. Put you foot up their asses, b/c that is BS. It's not your wheels causing the problem.

They most likely will say the wheels void the warranty. If your wheels weigh more, then they will be adament. If possible, put the old ones on before you go in, to save some trouble.

well, i probably won't know what the problem is until monday, cause they said their isn't gonna be any techs in until monday...i just hope they wont give me any hassle about the wheels, also i've only had the car since thanksgiving last year, so its only been like 11 months!!! but i've put some miles on it, 19K...

has their been any reports on this happening on the newer g20's cause it just seems to weird for a newer car to be doing stuff like this already...

the 18's that you have are they heavy?
if so it probably killed your tranny. because of the excess wheel weight.
put your stocks back on then take it back to the stealaship.

Don't you think that everybody that has big rims would have the same problem. Big rims don't mess up the tranny. Just slows you down a little.

Its gonna make your engine work harder to get the car going. You will get a little hp loss, but that should be it. If the wheels are too big it could affect the suspension if anything. Kinda like carrying extra luggage all the time, sorta.

Weight of the wheels shouldnt mean anything. What if you put an extra person in the front seat with you...does that mean that you will break the tranny? nahh...

Not as simple as that. Heavier wheels add to the unsprung weight of the car (unsuspended), which has a different effect on the car than a passenger.

But it shouldn't have any relevance here - heavy wheels *might* affect suspension, but tranny... Highly improbable, IMO. There are a few automatics here, and I doubt any of them had problems with wheel weight messing up the gearbox... Just take it in (although to save you some unnecessary headache you might want to put stockers on, if you have them. If not - you can borrow something light from Geo )

i'm really getting convinced that the dealership can't really say sh*t about my wheels because you gotta think the newer g20's can come with either 15's or 16 in wheels and the dealership near me even offers a set of 17's with the newer ones, and those are chrome also...i'm sure those are a lot heavier than mine
