You're practically talking another liter here, plus its an inline 6 (and inline 6 engines are amazing engines), and naturally its more powerful

i dont think that gettin an 8 is the only way to get power, the E46 M3 can keep up with most of the high performance 8's like the vipers and vette z06's yet it is just the same inline 6 in the 330, well except for the fact that the M department got a hold of it. . .

Of course the M3 is fast. But if he's driving a 318, I don't think he can afford an M3.

Uhm kaoru therefore your argument is pointless and an attack on inline4-6 bimmers LoL.. technology vs raw power.. its all out there somewhere. Inline 6 engines are the most beatiful besides v12 engines. Also don't forget maybe the 318 doesn't have VANOS i dont know it should i suppose. Vanos is like vtec, vvti, etc.. etc.. variable valve timing system in bimmers.

Your best bet is A. another engine, B. turbo, but you want to first make the car breath properely so that should be your first priority as in with any other turbo specification.

Remember your clutch will suffer so be prepared for that.

how about giving us some links to companies that sell turbo kits for the 318. And prices because I'm very interested how much time he'll have to pimp himself on the street to pay for all this.

Kaoru, what kind of BMW do you drive?

You sound like you must drive a really nice M5 or something considering your comments.

Lets hear about your rich lifestyle BMW?

Maybe you can fill us in on the maintenace costs, and list mechanics that are going to be able to fix/tune the turbo, because only a handfull of qualified ones are around and they charge a fortune.
REALITY CHECK:Just because you read a lot of car magazines doesn't mean you know squat.

escalix, if you want power the 318 is the wrong car, get a 325.

actually if you had done your homework you would know that the e46 m3 is actually a 3.2 litre. and the next m3 will boast a v8

I know it is a 3.2 liter. i memberized everything about that car. its the S54 engine, 3.2 liter inline 6 that puts out 333 hp @7900 rpm and 262 lb/ft of torque at 4900 rpm. 0 - 60 in 4.8 secs and is 3781 lbs. i have all this and more posted on my wall at work along with a bunch of other bimmers, all bimmers i want but wont have at least for a little while.

the S54 engine is a much improved derevitive of the M54 engine that is in the 330, 530, X5 3.0, 530, Z4 3.0, Z3 3.0. .etc. . .

keep in mind that as with any turbo/super charging upgrade, you better make sure the rest of your car can handle the extra power. if your car already has a decent amount of miles on it, its not going to be too happy. even if your car has 0 miles on it your going to need to upgrade other things. your also going to need to upgrade you breaks so your car has the stopping power needed to offset the extra horse power.

oh yeah, most turbo/super charging kits are fairly expensive, so it would have to be a custom self made, also include the cost to install if your not mechanically inclined. otherwise, you would probably be better off selling your 318 and trying to find a 93-94 325, or possible a 328 which has 25 extra ft lbs of torque
