I think this tutorial will really help out all of the newbies or even those who are not great at oblique views or want an easy way. Sorry for the quality of the pics.
This is the first time I have used this technique and it makes drawing Oblique views much easier. 1. First find an image that you would like to draw. 2. Print out the image (I chose B&W, bad choice) in color if possible. I print on graphing paper so I dont have to draw the grid onto the piece of paper. 3. Figure out the scale that you want to work with. For mine it was 1box=1/2 in. I use a 18x12 drawing pad for this. Number along the X and Y axis 4. Look at each box on the print out then transfer it to the grid box on the drawing pad. Seems easy enough. This is where the numbers come in handy so you can pick box 4,7 to copy. 5. Now Its ready to be shaded. After you erase the grid. Stay tuned for the shading steps.

yeah, I learned that way in math actually :smoker2: which was last year. It's a great way to get great details from a real life picture. If you have time on your hands to draw something I'd suggest this way.

GTMIKE400,
You didn't tell me you new the grid tecnique ![]() Well that book by Hammond talks about that. That is one reason why I wanted you to get it. Still check it out because she goes into detail about shading. The shading really is what gives the car weight and a feeling of 3D. Your tutorial is da---bomb. I love it. Now we need Simdel1 to wright a tutorial on his "Point of Reference Technique" Great now the secrete is out "grid technique" everyone will be able to draw ![]() al Last edited by asaenz; 05-11-2003 at 08:54 AM. |

From what I can tell your photo is not a good reference because it does not show the detail of the side and rear part of the car. I think if you get a better reference. You will be able to draw the car a whole lot better especialy the side and back part. To be honest I looked at your work again. The car really looks good. al |

hmm, looking at your drawing, it looks just about perfec . as soon as you are happy use a green and a black pen or pencil crayon or prisma pencil to draw the outline...that is if you are doing it in colour...

thats a prelude by the way, not a civic.
but the drawing looks good, CHC, i think you should just blacken the windows until you can perfect making the fine details of the interior.

Hmmm, I'm trying to see what possibly went wrong. I'm not sure, to me it looks like you rushed the further back you went.
