Lightbulb Flowmaster on 64????

Hey all,
I have a 1964 1/2 Mustang 289 V8, and i wanted to add a flowmaster system on it, i found a suitable one on the flowmastermufflers.com website, but would it be smart to put one on or just leave it as is? Im still skeptical about it.......can any of you help a fellow mustanger out :bandit:

Go with triple chambers.

I've got a 65 coupe with Flowmaster 40 series twin chambers on board. They sound mean as hell BUT if I drive on the highway for ANY length of time, the resonance will kills my hearing. Flowmasters are a little notorious for that, but they also DO have that distinct sound. My suggestion if you're dead set on that brand, get triple chambered mufflers, they do cost more, but are worth it. Also if you're getting all new plumbing, be sure to install an H pipe to equalize the pressure, again this will lessen the resonance from 2000-3000 RPM.
I'm saving up for a set of triple chambers myself as I don't want to be investing in a hearing aid after my next trip to the shows.

I'm not a fan of dronemasters, just something about a chambered muffler that I don't find appealing. I prefer flow through mufflers myself. I really like my Dynomax superturbos, they sound nice and are not overkill. Magnaflow also makes a decent muffler that sounds great at WOT, but very mellow at idle.

Flow masters are my choice

Hey man!
I've got a 65 fastback with Flowmaster 40 Delta Flow mufflers on it. I love it.
My motor is a dynoed 408 hp 349 stroker with headman long tube headers and 2.5 inch pipe with and equalizer tube to the mufflers and 2.25 inch pipe to the valance. If you have a basic 289, definately run 2.25 inch pipe all the way. It will keep some noise down and give better back pressure.
I also have a tremec tko five speed and 3.80 posi gears. cruisen down the road at 60 is reasonably quiet.
good luck!

while we're on the subject i'm going to replace my exaust system aswell. I'm looking for something that's quiet, yet unrestrictive. It chaps my hide when i see punks with out mufflers, plus i dont want to rattle any feathers in my parent's quiet neighborhood. I had initially assumed that i'd get a flowmo 3 chamber, but highflow says no - and highflow knows. Have you any other sudjestions that would grand perfomance and not shake up the windows?

The reason I said no to flowmasters is just because I don't care for them. It's just my personal preference, that I don't care for a chambered muffler. Everyone has flowmasters, and what's to make your ride stand out from the next.

I like my dynomax, but the are loud on my car without cats. I hear Magnaflow makes a sweet muffer that's very mellow at idle, but sounds great at WOT.
