Hey guys and gals,
I'm considering going with the Airaid intake and Poweraid throttle body spacers for my 2000 Xterra SE. Has any body else used these? I'd appreciate some input. Thanks. |

Word on the street is that the Airaid is a good intake setup. It seems I recall reading that it doesn't have a plce to intsall the air temp sensor though so you have to find a place for that. I could be wrong.
As for the throttle body spacer the concensus has been that it's useless and a waste of money. No surprise there; just looking at it and how it installs makes you wonder what it possibly COULD do?

Doesn't the TBS(throttle body spacer) give the same affect as a highrise manifold for a 4 barrel??? Not saying as extreme but it would raise the air volume a bit??
I would like to see some dyno test with a stock truck without one than with one and no other mods. I cann't see the big power that Power Aid claims to be true. |

Spacers actually make a big difference, I have insalled them on quite a few different vehicles so far and we a noticed difference on all them, mostly low to mid range torque increases. I didnt use poweraid though, I have a performance shop and we make our own, but anyways we even installed them on 2 Civics and couldnt beleive it. We make spacers for almost every vehicle. I just installed one a 2001 LS1 camaro that we are going to dyno and see what we get for HP and torque results.

I'd like to see one on an Xterra.
Dyno'd before and after. With NO other mods. I've never seen any true test done on it. If it works I'm sure people here would use them. |

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'm going to give the airaid intake a try. Some of my friends have used them in the past with good results. As for the throttle body spacers, not sure yet. Bluztraveler is right, they are supposed to act as a mini highrise manifold. The theory makes sence to me, but is that little rise enough to make a difference? I'm also planning on matching the intake modifications with a gibson cat back - unless you guys have another brand you recommend. I've read the other threads on exhausts and gibson seems to be the winner. Has anyone bolted up the headers yet? Thanks again!!

I just installed the Airaid intake on my 03 this weekend and I must say, it seems to rev alot more freely now! I did the exhaust first last month and noticed an increase in torque(custom 2.5 pipe w/ Gibson muffler)but it still felt like it did'nt want to get above 4000rpms easily. When I tried it with the intake, it felt like someone took the cork out. Seat of the pants feel tells me it definitely has more power . Even if it's an ilusion, it's still worth it for the added flexability of the engine plus, it sounds really cool when you mash on it!

i put a k&n FIPK, airiad TBS, and a gibson exhaust system on my 2001 x. i noticed a good difference.... the only thing was that the TBS makes a whistling noise at about 1/4 throttle, and sense you will no longer have your stock airbox in the car with the resignators...the sound of the wistling noise out the end of the intake is extremly load and annoying like a dog whistle.... so i took my TBS off. i didnt notice too much of a decrease in performance when i took it off

I find that the TBS really works when I'm pulling a trailer. It helps on highway cruising going up some of the mountains here in B.C.

Re: Has anyone used Airaid and/or Poweraid products on the X?
That's really weird, considering the TBS is incapable of providing any power at all on a port-injected engine like ours. They're really only of any use with a carb, or throttle-body injection system, where the fuel is introduced prior to the spacer. The spacer allows a bit more time/distance for the fuel to mix with the incoming air, and may add some turbulence to further stir things up. On our engines with an injector at each cylinder, the extra distance is pointless, and any turbulence has been completely negated by the time the air makes its way from the throttle body all the way down the intake plenum and intake manifold to where the injectors are.
