99 Ford F250 4X4, 5.4: error code 0713

Hi guys.. getting frustrated and running out of cash. I have a great mechanic and even better tranny specialist who are both very experienced and have always treated me fairly. I just had an issue repaired, my wiring harness to the tranny had broken free and was resting on my exhaust. Needless to say, the harness has been rewired.

My mechanic then took my truck for a 40klm, 20 mile drive to be sure there were no more problems, and there weren't, until I went and picked it up. The led flashes on the shift column, aka, overdrive light, for a few minutes, but then goes off. We checked for a code, and was code 0713, temperature sensor out of range, or something like that.

Now the question is, could this sensor affect the torque converter lock. Normally I can do 110kph at just over 2000rpm, approximately 70 mph. On my drive home, I noticed I had to do almost 2200rpm just to do 90kph, 50 mph. And normally only 1500rpm to do 80kph, just over 40mph.

Before the meltdown, the transmission was working beautifully and only has just over 200,000 klm, 120,000 miles on it. Has had the filter and fluid replaced as per schedule, etc.

Anyone having any kind of similar experience or expertise on this subject, your feedback would be most welcome. My mechanic has offered to replace the sensor for the cost of the sensor, and no labour.

I guess I am just putting this out there to see what others have to say.

And if anyone is wondering what could have shaken my truck up so bad that whatever was holding my harness in place had broke. This is the road I have to drive to get to where I work. Yep, they call this a dirt road where I live, clay with some beach sand, stones, and a lot of pot holes.

Sounds like there may be some high resistance or a short with it still. If the trans controller isn't sure about the temp, it won't lock the converter.

Thanks for your reply.

Today, it appears to be working fine, but I am for sure holding my breath. Continuity in the wiring was checked as most of the wires in the harness to the transmission were replaced. What I have to wonder is if the wiring to the sensor was shorted, could the sensor now be unstable. By this I mean working, just not quite to spec.
