I hope someone can help with this problem. I have an 87 camaro the engine is a V6 2.8 multiport fuel injection. The problem has to do with my fuel line. I have replaced my fuel pump and filter 3 times already. Every time it's the same thing. It works fine for many months then the car starts to die, then stutters on start then it finally dies all together, and is not restartable afterward. The mechanic's said it was getting sporadic pressure and that I would need to replace my fuel pump. Like I said it's happened three times, and Just last week the car started to have problems again. Now it's dead. I want to know if anyone has had the same problems, or if anyone knows if it could be something along the fuel line that could be stressing the pump to failure..
Thanks in advance.. you can email me at [email protected] |

Thats odd.
I would switch to a different brand of fuel pump.

replace the fuel pressure regulator, it might be over working the pump, even 2-5 psi over spec will kill a pump.

As stated above, check wires, replace both the sock and the pump along with the fuel filter. These items are relatively easy installs and only cost about $50 altogether. For another $25 you can get a pressure regulator (good call reconmike!) and eliminate any restrictions. Before installing, sit the pump in a pot of gas for 10 minutes so it can "prime" itself and NEVER let the tank get below 1/4 full. Inspect the tank and old sock too! Could be crud in the bottom of the tank. Keep us posted! |

Fuel Pump Problems
Realize this post maybe OBE...but it may help other folks with problems.
The instructions that came with my fuel pump stated that the oil pressure sensor/sending unit can/will disable the fuel pump if it is not working properly. I think a sign of this would be wild fluctuations of oil pressure on your gauge. My problems were similar, and I think I had dirty contacts at one of the connectors under the hood.
