Using Nitrous

I know little bit about nitrous and I just want to clear some stuff up.

(FAF was were I learnt most about nitrous, but I have learnt that FAF isn't very accurate )

-Does a NOS kit come with the buttons for the steering wheel and all that stuff?

-Where do you plug the nitrous, I mean, I know you have install some things in the intake man. but do you have to install something in the computer?

-When you press the nitrous button, is there any preset amount of time that the nitrous will be used, or do you have to press the button as long as you want the boost?

-Is there any recommended shift or revs on where to use the nitrous, I mean if you use it when you are at high revs, the extra boost would blow your engine, right?

Ok these are the doubts I have about nitrous, please clear em for me :help:

Number 1 you should never learn about automotive performace from a fake gay movie. Have you tried Calling NOS with these questions? Nos kit come with a Buttion and arming switch but it is not build for you steering wheel unless you want to put it there but that is up to you.

Standard Stage 1 kit goes into the intake which a lot of people just drill a hole in the rubber boot that connects the CAI to the throttle Body.

When you hit nitrous it is recommended the you have the gas pedal at full throttle. You can run Boost and also Nitrous as long as you have enough Fuel to supply to the engine.

If you have anymore questions call NOS and ask them.

I just said I learned about nitrous in FAF, about cars in general I'm learning with experience and with you guys

I can't call NOS since they don't have distributors here in Peru

well, with 9.9:1 and 13 pounds of boost, I wouldnt spray as well, maybe just in first til the turbos spooled.

but you can get a window switch so that it ony sprays to certain rpms (like right as the turbo is spooled) and a WOT switch so that if you back off on the gas it stops spraying.

To answer your Q's -

1. No a nitrous kit doesn't come with the steering wheel switches, but you can buy steering wheels with them on it. It does come with switches, but not for mounting on the wheel.

2.Well, there are 2 types of NOS systems for your car. Dry and Wet systems. A dry system hooks up in the intake tube and sprays just nitrous in, and uses the stock fuel system to dump in more fuel to compensate. A wet system hooks up at each injector, and has a seperate selenoid for fuel and Nitrous to be pumped in.

3. Usually 10-15 seconds is the normal.

4.Use it only at WOT and above 2500 RPM is recommended by the NOS company.

actually i used to belive the same thing but i found out that the nitrous that hookes up to the injectors is the direct port nitrous.

the wet shot is simillar to the dry but it sprays nitrous mixed with gasoline into the manifold.

alesandro if you want to know everything about nitrous get the SCC article from two months ago.

also the best beginner system is the venom one since it comes with a computer and it will tell your ecu to be prepared with enough fuel to compensate for nitrous.

also this is the most important thing to remember when palnning any forced induction never have too much air to fuel - its called running lean - lean mixture will lead to extreme temperatures which can lead to detonation or it can even get so hot that your pistons will melt to the sleeves - anyway you blow up your engine

If you are not sure about your mix alsways err on the side of rich mixture.

Thanx for the help, and very useful advice Neutrino just one question, to measure your cars mixture you have to install an air/fuel gauge right?

I'll try to find the SCC Article from a couple of months ago, I think a friend has it I'll ask him when I have the chance:licker:

yeah an air fuel will tell you the mixture. one thing is that normally it plugs into the oxigen sensor and some people say that they might not be very acurate. i'm not sure but i think the best way is to get the readings directly from the ECU - but i'm not sure gauges can do this.

another safer way is to get a stand alone or piggyback and plug those in and read all the settings using the software. serious FI will definivatelly require one of those so you can adjust the mixture timing etc...

yeah ypou could reburn your stock ecu but having your own configurable computer is way cooler.

with the APEXI VAFC, does that tell you your A/F ratio as well, or just let you adjust the fuel curve? and doesnt the computer get its A/F reading from the O2 sensor also, so wouldnt a gauge from there be just as accurat, or does the computer read many different readings.

Neutrino, I think I would have to recomend a wet kit and not the Venom kit(sense it is a dry kit) for alessandro's app, turbos and dry nitrous kits don't mix very well IMO.

i would recommend not using nos with a turbo period unless its only to help spool

and what about Direct Port? how does that work and will it work well with my app?

And yes if I would get a nitrous kit it would only be to spool the little monster

Direct port does not spary into the manifold like other types of N2O. This will shoot the N2O directly into each cylinder. This is the best way to do it, it is not cheap though.
