Tamiya Peugeot 206 WRC Monte 2000

Another one finished.

I started this kit a long, long time ago. If you want to have fun at my expense then you could look for the WIP thread That's the reason why the side vents in the front bumper are not blended in and why I used decals for seatbelts. I really did not know better back then...

The kit is built 95% box stock and the only changes are CM hood pins, masking tape for rear portions of seatbelts and the spare wheel belt. Guitar strings are used for antennas and it really allowed me to achieve that wound look of the base of the FWD antenna. It's really subtle on the real car but it's there. The kit itself is really really good - classic Tamiya.

The paint used is Peugeot Gris Quartz Metallic from Glasurit (colour code is EYC) and this is the firsts and only kit of a racecar where I have clearcoated the decals. Worked out allright, actually. The clear is also Glasurit.

The biggest headache probably is the decal on top of the roof that goes over the roof scoop - I did not really manage to make it work and had to touch up with paint. Not perfect, in all honesty.

The car the kit represents did not finish the Monte Carlo rally in 2000 (engine failure) but Marcus did go on to win the championship that year. And here are the pictures.

As always, comments are welcome, and thank you for looking.

Alex

Thank you very much!

OK, the little details then. The antennas are really guitar strings. They're a little thicker than I would have liked but that was the smallest wound guitar string I had.

The front antenna is the string with the wound part, and the wound part was painted chrome silver from a Gundam marker. The aft antenna is just a piece of guitar string painted black and the thicker bottom part is made by dipping the end of the wire in superglue a few times. The tops of the antennas are just a small drop of enamel black paint applied with a toothpick.

The hood pins are aftermarket photoetched parts from Crazy Modeler, nothing more.

There is nothing special about the wheelnuts - just detailed the kit wheels with silver and a sharpened toothpick.

Thanks! It really isn't perfect but thankfully camera hides the flaws I am quite happy with it, though, especially considering when I painted the thing.

Best,
Alex
