96 Z71 350 Dies while driving

Truck ran out of gas, after filling up I took a long trip. In 12 hours of driving it died once, drove another hour died again, always starts up fine. Drove a couple more hours, then started the dying again, also spitting and spuddering. After dying several more times, took to a chevy dealer, they put on a new fuel filter. No more problems for about three hours, then died again. Started back up fine. By this time I had been running premium fuel, stopped and put in Seafoam fuel treatment, drove another 3 or 4 hours no problem. Started back home 4 days later, drove 4 or 5 hours , no problems, then it spuddered and died. Found an Autozone and put in another can of Seafoam and continued filling with premium fuel, drove another 8 hour home, never missed a beat, pulling a 4000 lb travel trailer. What do you guys think. PS , I have not seen my fuel light on since I ran out of fuel, maybe that is why I ran out.

Is it running good now or still acting up?
Running low or out of gas is very hard on fuel pumps.
Check fuel pressure when it is acting up.
If changing the fuel filter fixed it and fuel filter was full of junk you may be getting dirty fuel.

I would recheck fuel filter and see how much crap is it.
Post back what you find on fuel pressure and fuel filter.

Re: 96 Z71 350 Dies while driving

MT–2500 is spot on. The fuel pump in your truck is notorious for failing at around every 60,000 miles you put on it. It starts out as an intermittent problem, but eventually it will fail altogether and will just not start. Your fuel injection system requires precise fuel pressure, and even a very slight drop can cause your problem. So, just because you hear the pump running when you turn the key on doesn't mean the pumps not bad
