exhaust installation

hi guys, purchased a "96-00 Honda Civic Full Catback Exhaust System" BOMBZ

from ebay and i have a 97 2DR CIVIC HX... now i have the car at the shop and my mechanic is telling me that it does not fit on the car and that it may be for an accord or a prelude... when i bought this item from the description it says its compatible with my car. below is a picture of it... can you guys check it out and see if it should work and my mechanic is just an idiot...

thank you

here is the pic of the system.

Did the Ebay item specifically say HX? Cuz if he said EX/DX and you just assumed HX too, you screwed yourself. The exhaust that fits on a DX/EX won't fit on an HX because the catalytic converter is directly underneath the engine block to help the engine warm up quickly (helps with gas mileage i guess). On the EX and DX, the cat is further down a bit.

You need to find out if this'll fit on and EX, and if it does, get an EX/DX exhaust manifold and catalytic conv. Then it should bolt up ok. Or you can take it to an exhaust shop and they can fit it for you. A guy on this forum told me how they do it once, but i'm an idiot and forgot. But i remember the word 'flanges' in there. Good luck, man. Let us know how it turns out

I'm second guessing myself on whether the EX exhaust manifold would be necessary. Can someone comment on whether that's acurate?
