How to replace idler pulley behind right side Mtr Mt. '97 PAU
The idler pulley behind the right side motor mount destroyed itself. It is attached to a piece that has 3 bolts but to get to that it looks like I've got to take the AC compressor away fro the block and try and get it out from the side. Everything is so tight in there that
What size Torx is used on the pulleys? I broke a Torx 50 trying to get the 3" idler and rib pulley under the coil pack tonight. I quit for today. Can anyone tell me if there is another way? thx, walt |

Re: How to replace idler pulley behind right side Mtr Mt. '97 PAU
First of all, the idler pulleys are left-hand thread and should turn clockwise to loosen. In order to change the 3" pulley, the motor mount the bracket will need to be removed. Place a jack with a piece of wood between the pan & jack to support the engine. There is one bracket bolt behind the PS pump which will require removal of the PS bolts and moving the PS pump to the side. (One PS bolt can only be accessed through the hole in the PS pulley.) If you want to remove the bracket from the top, you need to remove the coil mount bracket and set it aside. Unless you have all the tools & skills to do the job, it might be better to have an experienced mechanic do it for you. It is not a job for the novice DIY's!
