Check Engine Light; code says "Running Lean"

On my '02 Protege5 my check engine light came on and I had the code checked and it said, "Running Lean". The car idles pretty rough while in Drive and every so often even stalls while idling. When I put it in Neutral the idle is pretty smooth. Any suggestions on what might be going on? Thanks

I had this exact same problem. Turned out it was my air intake hose. It had a big crack in at that I hadnt noticed. I had to purchase a new one through the manufacturer. It was $53. and took about a minute to fix.
