96 Town Car a/c only works for 10-15 mins
The air conditioner in my 96 LTC blows nice and cold until about 10-15 min's after the engine warms up.
Upon a cold-start, I turn it on, w/ the EATC set on 60. The compressor immediately kicks-on, runs for about 5-8 sec' then switches off for 5-8 sec's. It does that four to five times before the comp. runs continuously, as it is supposed to do. The black cylinder that's next to the coolant reservoir-- the condenser (evaporator, maybe?)-- Whatever it is... It becomes cold to the touch, and *Condensate builds-up on its outer surface, as it is supposed to. So, after 10-15 minutes, the compressor will shut-off for 5-15 secs, then kick-on for 5-8... And just keeps going through that cycle and the inside air quickly becomes warm. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,, > I recharged the system about three wks ago, and it does blow noticeably colder... When it's working for that 10-15 minutes, that is. > I am unable to get the EATC to enter test mode. Pressing OFF & FLOOR simultaneously, then while holding those two buttons down, pressing AUTOMATIC is supposed to do it. Am I doing something wrong? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,, *Just a little fun-fact: Contrary to popular belief "condensate" is the actual water itself that forms on the outside of a container which is colder on its inside, than the outer air temp (a glass w/ ice in it, for example)-- "CONDENSATION" is the process which causes the condensate to form. When you filled the system with refrigerant, did you also check for proper low and high pressures, temperatures, and vacuum?

Re: 96 Town Car a/c only works for 10-15 mins
Yes, I did.
I was experiencing the same problem before as well as after the recharge, if that makes a difference. Shortly after I posted my original msg., I figured out how to enter test mode on the EATC. It gave me code "025". any idea what that means? ________ Lovely Wendie99 Last edited by LieutenantCracker; 04-21-2011 at 07:18 AM. |

Thank you, all2kool...
I, as well, found that info through Google. The reason my previous reply included that question was b/c I hoped that someone might have some insight, in addition to what I had found elsewhere. But, I thank you for the condescension (Please forgive me, & correct me if I've misinterpreted your posted reply) ________ Medical Marijuana Dispensaries In The Inland Empie Last edited by LieutenantCracker; 04-21-2011 at 07:18 AM. |

Ah, crabs!
Sorry 'bout that, man! I thought you were making fun of me. And, you're right-- I should've posted the info that I'd found... I suppose I was the one who made things confusing, that time ![]() THANKS for the replies! PS [UNRELATED TO THE CAR ITSELF] Is there any way to express inflection/tone/feeling, in an e-mail, other than using those dumb little emoticons? THIS was a prime example of a time when I needed to show that *I* wasn't being condescending-- But I still feel like a tool having to use a stupid "smiley"! ________ YAMAHA MOTIF HISTORY Last edited by LieutenantCracker; 04-21-2011 at 07:18 AM. |

Re: 96 Town Car a/c only works for 10-15 mins
I did a little searchin'-around Google, lookin for info re: whether the "025" (blend door) eatc code could have anything to do w/ the compressor kicking on and shutting off-- Couldnt find anything.... I've been known to phrase my Google searches properly, though.
Have any idea if that blend door issue would cause my problem? ________ Alaska medical marijuana dispensaries Last edited by LieutenantCracker; 04-21-2011 at 07:18 AM. |

Replace the AC pressure switch, located near the expansion chamber. It's a Schrader fitting so no need to empty the system.
