improving ride comfort w/o lowering

Need some advice on significantly improving ride comfort for 97 integra with 205/40/17. Everything factory with no modifications except the 17" wheels and tires. Ever since I changed tires & wheels, the ride has been harsh. Feeling every little bump,crack,and other small road imperfections for a bone jarring ride. I like to keep the 17"wheels for looks and steering response and NOT LOWER the car but still improve ride comfort.
Any suggestions? Will aftermarket shocks greatly improve ride comfort?Thanks.

lowering it would make it worse... lowering springs are stiff as **** for the most part and when i rode in my friends car thats dumped to the GROUND (integra lowered 4.5") i hit my head on the ceiling a few times (im 6'6" though..)

lowering will not necessarily make it worse...crappy springs or crappy blown shocks will make it worse!

very much depends on how low go...if you go for a moderate drop about 1.5"-2" you shouldn't have that harsh of a ride as long as you buy some good suspension...but if you don't want to lower...you can always try what i did

for about $150 in supplies...you can put some soundproofing material that you can buy at any homedepot or place like that...i bought this green roll mat, that is made for putting under hardwood flooring..that is called silent step...that is a very good sound absorber...about 20-25$ a roll....i bought 2 of those...

also some carpet underlay...8mm....you can get there too...it's just that foamy mat that you have to cut up and place on the big spots...

the green stuff you can put everywhere though...just apply contact cement to the back of it, and apply the green mat on all the metal parts...you can double layer if you want to get extra sound protection...but doing this is a pain in the ass, but well worth it..i did it to my prelude and it sounds like a more expensive car...way more solid...and i haven't even done my doors yet...it takes a hell of a long time but well worth it...

you have to rip out everything...well depending on how crazy you want to do it...i went all out...put that green shit everywhere and all the potholes bumpy gound is much more standable...and i'm lowered 2" on teinSS...so maybe give that a try...
