2000 Cougar Power Steering Leak

2000 Mercury Cougar V6 2.5

Have a slow leak (reservoir will empty once a week or so) coming out in front by radiator and am assuming that it is return line. Not sure if this model offers non-pressure line. Do you have to replace whole line or can you cut rusted section and replace with rubber hose? will the heat still dissipate?
