2010 Cobalt SS - best deal on the road
If you're a Canadian that loves cheap, fast cars, I've just come across what is possibly the best deal of the decade. Chevy is currently offering employee pricing on most 2010 models, and it just so happens the 2010 Chevy Cobalt SS coupe is one of those cars - but get the figures - the price adjustment is almost $6,400! So with an MSRP of about $27K, the 260-horsepower SS retails for about $21K with deliveries. Schlep on top of that GM's 0 or 0.9% 60-month finance rate, and for the price of a mildly equipped Kia Forte or Mazda3, you're getting a heck of a lot more car for the dollar.
I'm not going to tell anybody that the SS is anything other than a cheap go-fast car, but go fast it does. 0-60 comes up in 5.7 seconds, that's the same as a Dodge Challenger R/T with the 5.7L Hemi! It's got Brembo 4-piston front brakes, sport-tuned suspension, custom short-throw transmission and sport seats with thick, meaty bolsters. The chassis in this car is also very rigid, making it impressively tight in the corners, and low-profile summer tires with soft tread gives excellent dynamics in the twisties.
If I was shopping for a sporty car in Canada for anything around the $20K mark, this would surely be the car I'd take home. Comparably, a Mazdaspeed3 costs $33K in Canada! After taxes, that's about $14,000 more...or almost the price of another car.
