4 wheel drive issues

My suburban has push button 4x4. I just pushed 4x4 high, felt truck engage and proceeded to go. The truck acted as if brakes were depresseed. I stopped put in 2wd and got the same thing. Then put truck in reverse and seemed to unlock it. So i tried again and am getting the same thing in 4wd high, 4wd low, then back to 2wd. Will remain stuck until i go in reverse. Any suggestions!?!?

Year and size sub?
What transfer case?

Did it just start doing it?
Has it worked good before?

Are your tires and rear ends matched.

Odd tires or rear end gear ratio off will cause binding lockup.

transfer case says 272 bought with rear end out and had rebuilt with same gears (342). truck has 4" lift and running 285 75 16. i took to mechanic and said these trucks you need to put in reverse for a few feet to kick out. and with me testing on asphalt that is why i felt binding. however another question is should i stick with same size wheels and tires or if i upgrade am i getting into trouble and have to switch gears?
