"Clanging" noise from front driver's wheel
I have a '99 Jimmy with a "clanging", for lack of a better word, coming from the front driver's side wheel. I only hear it when i hit a bump. It goes away when i push on the brake, and no braking issues that i can tell. Today i pulled the wheel off and checked the brake caliper and it seems to be on tight, no abnormal wear on the rotor. The only thing i noticed was the upper ball joint boot had a crack in it (i replaced these not long ago, along with new tie rod ends, probably overfilled it with grease). I also had the wheel bearing replaced three weeks ago. I haven't replaced the shocks yet, could it be a worn out shock? Any ideas anyone?

Could be any number of things... possibly a shock, or possibly one or both of the sway bar links has broken. Just have to get under there and start looking and wiggling things around.

Re: "Clanging" noise from front driver's wheel
Did you replace the hood washer? If not, check into that, there is a spring washer thread on this forum that explains it very well.
I had a clunk and clang also that I never heard until I replaced the ball joints, and hubs. Didn't sound like it was coming from the hood area, but it was. I had a driver door upper pin bushing broken also, so don't really know if the hood washer or the new door pins fixed the clunk but it is gone. I swore this noise was coming from the wheel well area, it wasn't. Door pins: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=363334 Can't find the hood washer thread. |
