steering rack leak

Hi Guys,
the steering rack on my 2000 Silverado 1500 reg cab is leaking on the left side . Can anyone tell me if seals can be changed in this rack. The tech that looked at truck tells me that dodge racks seals can be swapped out but unsure about GM.
Thanks

Re: steering rack leak

not 100% sure but I don't think they can be. There is no procedure in the gm service information and I've never seen it done at the dealership I work at.

Just want to clarify. Are you taking about the spool shaft seal cause that's where they usually leak; or out at the bellows.

You could call parts at Boston's. They can pull up the entire rack assembly and tell you what is serviceable.

first, ` since you have a 2000 1500 p/u I find it interesting you have a rack system ..

the rack is usually replaced . the internal parts wear and seal replacement is short lived .this must be 2wd vehicle ...
