help with tranny on 97 explorer

i have a 97 ford explorer. 4.0 AWD with a 5R55E tranny. we had someone rebuilt the transmission a little over a year ago. but suddently it started to mess up. i dont know if its the transmission starting to mess up or not but i was wondering if someone can give me some info on this. the the car does is that it starts up good and once u put it on D it shifts into first and works good. as you driving down the street still in first. it feels like it wants to shift to second but doesn't and keeps going on first then it accelerates close to 2000 RPMs mo0re then what your going already and then it shifts. unless you let go the gas and wait for about 3 or 4 seconds and then lets go the gear. it doesnt force the 2nd gear it puts it in like it would normally would. after that the 3rd, 4th, and over drive shift like it should. has this ever happened to anyone? i think its probably the converter, ir maybe the belts need adjustment. can someone please help me out with this. i would really appreciate it.

Re: help with tranny on 97 explorer

There are no belts in your transmission. Are you thinking "bands?"

The shift solenoids are a pretty well known issue with this transmission, you may have a problem with them. The solenoid pack can typically be changed out without removing the transmission from the vehicle. There should be several threads on here about them, you might try the "Search this forum" feature for keyword "solenoid".

Re: help with tranny on 97 explorer

i tried searching solenoids on the forum and found one which is the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid. is this the one you were talking bout? do you know where i can get a diagram of this or all the solenoids? and as for the bands, do you think that by adjusting them it will help this or should i start with the solenoids first?
