I have a 91 park ave with 160000 miles on her. One day I was coming out of my driveway and theres a little hump to go down. I was coming out straight and once i when down off the hump my engine started to shake and there was a plastic breaking sound underneath the car. I rev up the engine while in gear in drive did nothing. Put it in neutral and still didnt move. It has no leaks or anything. I heard it could be something with the linkage to the trans? Somebody please help

Re: 91 Park Ave wont move in any gear!!
Probably something internal to the trans. Mine did something similar.
How does it react when you shut the car off and re-start? Mine would go and then freewheel after moving a few blocks. Had to go through that procedure a number of times to get it to my mechanic to replace the trans. The reason was that the internals fell apart and clogged some of the internal lines. When the car shut off, the internal pressure relieved and the shrapnel would fall back enough for the car to move a little more. I would almost bet that the trans is gone. Maybe someone else has had a different experience. Good luck!

So get under it an look, is the linkage damaged, trans pan damaged, axle broken, you are the only who can see these things, no?

Mine would move, even in neutral. If yours will not move at all (Neutral should be able to roll away even without power), you have some sort of other problem, but still probably a trashed trans, in my opinion.
Maxwedge is right, open the hood, crawl underneath, take a look and see what you can find. More information will help the experts give you the information you need!

I had called one of my mechanics and he said it sounds like something with the linkage. Well if thats not it is there another transmission that I can put in there with a bigger gear ratio?

Im currently not by the car but I had one of my folks look at it. There is no damage to the trans pan. How do I tell if the linkage is broken and the axle? But I doubt the axle because I think that would've been more than obvious. Does anybody have any pictures so I can locate the linkage?
