Parking brake adjustment nut - needed!

I have a 2002 S-10 ZR-2 extended cab. The parking brake cable couldn't be adjusted because the nut is rusted to the cable. On mine, the cable for the right rear wheel has the threaded adjustment and it fits into a bracket that attaches the cable for the left rear wheel and the foot pedal.

I ordered a new cable from Autozone but the cable came with a standard hex nut whereas my old cable has a special nut that slips through the bracket and adjusts from the back side of the bracket.

I went to a Chevrolet dealership yesterday and they told me the nut cannot be ordered separate from the parking brake cable. Even worse, the parking brake cable is discontinued! Who would have thought that a cable made to fit a 1998-2003 would be discontinued! Their excuse is that because of the bankruptcy, GM has lost a lot of suppliers.

Does anyone know of a good parts supplier where I might find a nut for my parking brake? I have an L&M catalog but it doesn't offer such an item.

if the cable is still working but you lack a proper parking brake to hold the vehicle this is usually the shoes worn , drum worn , shoes out of adjustment....

remove the drums are the shoes worn only at the top of the shoes ? if not evenly worn on the entire radius of the shoe face the drums are NO GOOD !

WITH THIS PARKING BRAKE DESIGN IT IS NOT COMMON TO ADJUST THIS NUT ///THIS IS WHY IT IS LOCKED UP SOLID ...

then theres the scrap yard ...............

I believe the rear brake pads will need replaced in the near future. However, having a working parking brake in the meantime seems appropriate. Looking for such a part in a wrecking yard sounds like the easy way out but when you consider your time to find such a yard, travel, etc it makes even the simplest part more expensive than a dealer.

with new brake shoes and drums this parking brake will work very good..also when you hit the brakes your nose may whack the windshield on the brake effort increase..

I know it does take much more effort on your part to gather the srcap yard part , but my opinion is it is never ever MORE expense , than the dealer / who still with this part can't help you ..
