Transmission Guys Need your Help!

I'm replacing my transmission filter on my 2001 Yukon (4L60-E). While putting in the new filter seal I noticed a small strip of gasket material right in front of the seal that is torn, not sure if it was already torn or if I inadvertently did it. However, I need to know if this has some importance or is it just an overhanging gasket?

SEE PICTURE: The piece I’m referring to is at the end of the screw driver and the tear is just left of the screw driver.

Thanks for any info!

If it is brittle, looks like it could crack, you could remove it, but this is not normally an issue.
