Equus or Actron Code Reader, which is better
Decided to go ahead and invest in one and wondered if anybody could tell me about possible glitches and which one they prefer. Thanks

Re: Equus or Actron Code Reader, which is better
I've never used either. I use a laptop program and a USB device which can scan codes and do SO much more. If you don't mind spending a bit more money for extra functionality including custom commands sent to the ECU (such as Mode $06 tests) and data logging, go with the laptop-USB device route. I use the older model of the OBDLink with ScanXL Professional (there are free software alternatives).

Re: Equus or Actron Code Reader, which is better
If all you want is a code reader, either will work for you. I would go with the Actron. They seem to read better than others. Most tool trucks carry Actron on the low end code readers. For somewhere in the mid 100$ range, you can get one that reads generic live data.

Thanks for your input. I think I'm going to continue to check out the OBD scantool.
