2001 cavaler no start

i have a 2001 cavalier with a 2.2 .it always runs great and starts great. two nights ago it just randomly wont start it would try but shut off. towed it home tryed a little guess in the tb and it fired for a few seconds so i just thought it was fuel pump related so i let it sit for the rest of the day. i walke out there several hours later and it started right up and stayed runnibg tryed it several times and went to bed. got up this morning and i still ran great. so i finally decided to drive somewhere and its not getting fuel again. i dont see any signs of the theft light coming on but would the fuel pump just randomly quit and restart again. can i test the pump with out droppin tank? is there a relay that could be bad etc etc. any input will be appreciated
