1999 GLS electrical problem

I am new to this forum and need some help. I have a 1999 Passat GLS with 112,000 miles. W/in the past 4-5 months I have experienced what many believe to be an electrical problem.

When driving I take my foot off the accelerator to coast, I depress the break my radio goes on and off for approx 1 sec. The next time I do this not only does my radio go off but my check engine/abs/break light alarm goes on and I can feel a bucking with my engine. This will happen every time unless I pretend I am driving a standard and depress the brake as soon as a release from the accelerator.

I have taken this to my mechanic who has replaced my ignition switch. After 3 weeks the same problem has occurred but with minimal bucking, i.e. same alarms. I have spoken with a few people who believe my ignition relay needs to be replaced.

Has anyone had the same problem and if so what was your solution?

Thanks.

Re: 1999 GLS electrical problem

Check all your grounds and make sure they are tight and clean without any corrosion. Also, check the terminals on the battery as well.

Re: 1999 GLS electrical problem

I believe the local Volk dealership did that. They hooked the car up to a computer and two low voltage faults appeared and they corrected that problem. Picked up my car and one week later same problem occurred.

They have no idea what it is and have driven it around but the problem has not happened to them.

I would have your alternator and battery tested, and don't take it back to the dealer. pull out the battery and have them both tested at an autozone or any autoparts store. sometimes you can't trust the dealer..
