Radio and speedo not working

I know very little about cars and my 2005 ford escape that i bought a year ago has had an intermittent problem with the speedometer. It will work most of the time, but every now and then, sometimes while im driving and others when im sitting, the speedometer drops to zero and the odometer shows "------". My mechanic is stumped and i need help. It will happen more often when i have something plugged into the cigarette lighter, such as my computer or GPS but it hasnt happened with my phone charger plugged in. This car had been wrecked by the previous owner on the driver side in the front, which im guessing that had something to do with it. Also, it sat on a lot for about 2 years before it was fixed up. Just recently, the radio stopped working all together. I can eject cd's but cant play them and when my headlights are on the lights on the buttons will still light up, but the screen for the time and such just doesnt work. And lastly the ABS light is on, if that helps with figuring out these problems.
