I have a 2007 Tahoe LTZ. Just learned of a recall for the heated windshield wiper fluid option. The fix: Disable (unplug) the heater and reimburse the owner $100 for the option. Has anyone ever heard of another manufacturer handling a problem this way? This was a $50,000 vehicle and this is the best Government Motors can do? I'd be embarrassed to suggest this as a solution to the problem. Anyone else think this is BS? I have been a GM fan my whole life, but I think my loyalty has finally run out.

weird that they ever did this in the first place...

the ambient heat given off from the radiator/engine/ under hood will keep it warm anyways during the winter months

the standard blue fluid is watered down so much that you need the other types of windshield fluid that protects from -30 to -40 degrees C this past winter/blizzard with success

it is kinda BS that they'll not fix it correctly though; i wanna know if its just the heating element or the wiring that'll cause a potential fire

on my 2000 silverado the washer fluid bottle is down low driver side right behind the front bumper...so you tell me how the hell is this gonna warm up , when your going down the hwy doing 60-70 mph @ 20deg F and lower...this is the problem ..GM put the bottle in the wrong place..it should be near the firewall like my 1983 which never froze up...

ya when its cold my washers don't work ...

as far as their fix ,,,this is why I have an attitude with this bail out...

This option isn't to keep the washer fluid from freezing, it's to heat the fluid to remove frost and ice from the windshield in the winter. It has a small heater unit on the firewall and when you activate the feature it heats enough fluid for up to four shots.

If the washer fluid storage tank is mounted in the firewall area you do not need to heat it because after a short time the fluid will be warmed by the engine..

when your vehicle is first started , on a cold day 20deg f you do not use the windshield washers because it will all freeze and mess up your vision ..have to wait for the defroster to heat up the windshield ... even if you used fluid stored in your home in a warm area it will still freeze up..once the windshield is warmed then the washer fluid stored in the firewall area is all thats needed ...

so the GM fix should be to change the location of the fluid bottle...the idea that you can super heat washer fluid to overcome a very cold below 32 deg f windshield is not a very good idea ..
