2000 Deville stalling

2000 Deville,51,000 miles. Car stalls when slowing to a stop or idling. Never under acceleration. This happened once in a while, (once every 5 days or so) but now happens just about everyday, sometimes 2-3 times a day. Car starts fine first time every day. I can hear the fuel pump engage. After it stalls it takes a lot longer cranking to start. Seems to be a fuel delivery problem.

I have had to run 10% ethanol the last 1 1/2 years.
Could this be a pump or fuel filter problem? I'd like to avoid the diagnostic cost at the local dealer. To my knowledge the pump and filter have never been changed. I have had the car for four years and it had only 13,000 miles on it when I got it.

Thanks!

Yes, it sounds like a fuel delivery issue. Have you tried fuel injector cleaner?

At 51k miles, it is a good idea to replace the fuel filter. The fuel filter is a canister in rear of the vehicle. It is not hard to replace.

There are more things to do verify proper fuel delivery but try the simple items first.

Thanks for the reply. I'll change the filter and put injector cleaner in on Monday, and let you know the results. It hasn't stalled in three days, but I'm sure this will help.

Re: 2000 Deville stalling

Changed the fuel filter yesterday and the car is running like new again. The old filter was full of a brownish mixture of gas and crud. Put in injector cleaner as well.

Thanks for the help.

Re: 2000 Deville stalling

Well the stalling came back after a few weeks. Turns out it was a crank sensor. I had a diagnostic test done and both sensors showed up. I changed them both in August. Runs like a champ, and no problems since. Thanks for the advice.
